Fantasy Football Mock Draft: Standard, Late Pick (2024) (2024)

With Week 2 of the preseason just about done, meaningful football is right around the corner! With the regular season starting in nearly two weeks, it’s time to start planning how to build this year’s fantasy football teams.

Below, I will walk you through my latest fantasy football mock draft using standard scoring with the standard Yahoo roster format (1 QB /2 RBs/2 WRs/1 Flex/1 K/1 DST) and picking from the N0. 10 spot. And make sure to prepare for your fantasy football draft using our free mock draft simulator.

Fantasy Football Mock Draft: Standard Scoring

1.10: Jonathan Taylor (RB — IND)

With standard scoring, I prioritize the running back position early. Pass catchers lose some value because they don’t get points for every reception in these scoring settings. At 10, I had the choice of Jonathan Taylor or Saquon Barkley. Both are elite talents, but ultimately, I went with Taylor as he has more TD upside inside the red zone than Barkley

2.03: De’Von Achane (RB — MIA)

I was hoping to get lucky and snag both Taylor and Barkley, but Saquon went with the last pick of the first round. As I mentioned, I knew I wanted to leave the first two rounds with two running backs. Early in the second round, I had many choices, including De’Von Achane, Jahmyr Gibbs and Derrick Henry. My decision came down to Gibbs or Achane, and you can’t make a wrong decision here. You can make a case for both, but I prefer Achane for standard scoring, so I went with him.

3.10: Jalen Hurts (QB — PHI)

Again, pass catchers lose some value in standard scoring, so I knew I could wait another round before drafting some receivers. Another strategy of mine in standard scoring is trying to snag an elite quarterback who has rushing upside; I was able to accomplish that by getting Hurts as the third QB off the board.

4.03: Jaylen Waddle (WR — MIA)

I am perfectly fine with Jaylen Waddle being my WR1. We know how dynamic this Miami offense can be, and Waddle can explode any given week.

5.10: Malik Nabers (WR — NYG)

Malik Nabers will be the focal point in this Giants offense. Based on volume alone, I like Nabers as my WR2.

6.03: Jonathon Brooks (RB — CAR)

It’s no secret the Panthers want to run the ball, and that was made even more clear when they took Jonathon Brooks in the second round of the draft. Brooks may have been a first-round pick if he had not torn his ACL in college, but even coming off a major injury he was still considered an elite talent and the best running back in the draft. He may not be the Panthers’ Week 1 starter, but if all goes well he will take over as the starter and be another elite starting RB on my roster.

7.10: Rashee Rice (WR — KC)

It sounds like Rice won’t miss much time for his off-the-field issues; if that’s the case, I may have gotten a steal this late in the draft.

8.03: Chase Brown (RB — CIN)

Another RB who may not be the starter come Week 1, Chase Brown has been very impressive and could pass Zack Moss on the depth start sooner than later based on reports from the Bengals’ camp. I have no problem stashing Brown on my bench for a few weeks.

9.10: Tyler Allgeier (RB — ATL)

I am looking for handcuffs and guys with high upside this late in the draft. Allgeier will still be an essential piece in this new-look Falcons offense, but he would be a league winner if something were to happen to Bijan Robinson.

10.03: Rome Odunze (WR — CHI)

Other receivers that were left on the board included Christian Watson, Jordan Addison and Courtland Sutton. I felt Odunze had the biggest upside, with Watson being a close second option.

11.10: David Njoku (TE — CLE)

Looking back on this pick, I should have gone Jaylen Wright here to have a handcuff for my Achane pick earlier in the draft. Instead, I took Njoku to grab my TE1, and, of course, Wright was taken with the next pick.

12.03: Jordan Mason (RB — SF)

The Draft Wizard thought I reached for Jordan Mason, taking him two rounds earlier than his ADP, which is true. However, based on reports coming out of San Francisco and Elijah Mitchell‘s injury history, I believe Mason will leapfrog Mitchell on the depth chart. If that is the case and something happens to Christian McCaffrey, Mason becomes a must-start!

13.10: Dallas Cowboys D/ST

I had to take a shot on one of the best-scoring defenses in the league. The other option was the Cleveland Browns.

14.03: Brandon Aubrey (K — DAL)

When taking a kicker, I look for someone on a high-powered offense with plenty of opportunities to score or get in the red zone. Dallas fits that mold.

15.10: Tank Bigsby (RB — JAC)

At this point in the draft, I am throwing darts at guys with potential upside or handcuffs to a starter. Tank Bigsby is the clear-cut backup in Jacksonville, and the Jaguars have made it a point to get him involved in the offense. If Travis Etienne goes down, Bigsby will have every opportunity to receive a heavy workload.
