Students of the Landscape Architecture elective EcoCampus have designed and constructed the first projects of the Food Village! Situated at the Hammen farm, there is now a food forest, a tea garden and a front garden where edible flowers will grow. The plants can be plucked by visitors and will be used in the kitchen of the Faculty Club. Some plants have to grow before they can be harvested, but in the food forest there already is plenty of parsley and peppermint to pluck! Come by to have a look, the fence is opened during the week from 8 to 16h!#landscapearchitecture #ecocampus #foodvillage #openforvisit #delft

In the design studio Spatial Strategies for the Global Metropolis of the Spatial Planning & Strategy section, students make a regional design in groups of 4-5 students. They explore how sustainability transitions affect peri-urban areas in a Dutch sub-region of the Rhine, Meuse and Schelde delta region. Using the concepts of circular economy, decentralisation, and sustainable land use, students discuss issues that matter in ongoing Dutch national spatial planning. They work with the spatial claims that CO2, Nitrogen and water make on these areas and envision how these can be accommodated within the scare space. The student projects of Q3 in 2023-2024 dealt with these problems in different ways. Therefore we want to look back on some of the teams. Do you want to know more? In the electives of Urbanism, students can choose to delve into different topics and contexts. Some of these courses also involve a fieldtrip abroad to immerse themselves in local contexts. Currently, students from the Infrastructure and Environment Design course are abroad in South Africa with Fransje Hooimeijer, while students from the Globalization course are in China under the guidance of Diego Sepulveda Carmona. The students from Infrastructure and Environment Design are currently working on four cases that contribute to the MINELIVES project. This project, granted by the South African National Research Foundation (NRF) and NWO, focuses on finding solutions that balance trade-offs and enhance synergies in the water-energy-food nexus (WEF) in the former mining landscapes of South Africa. Named 'Longue Durée of WEF in post-extraction landscapes: Learning from Gauteng and Limpopo Regions to develop an interdisciplinary approach,' the project specifically targets low-income townships and informal settlements. The results are expected to make a contribution to the sustainability of the vision on redevelopment of the extraction landscapes. The Globalization Free Choice course serves as a platform for the comparative evaluation of diverse metropolitan responses to the Global City model and its associated spatial metropolization model. In Hong Kong, students are focusing on the Greater Bay Area in collaboration with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. In this studio, game-boarding and scenario building techniques are employed to develop planning models that can address large-scale challenges. Additionally, the course aligns with the International Forum on Urbanism (IFoU).#TUDelft #urbanism #fieldtrip #southafrica #china #infrastructuredesign #environmentaldesign #globalization #metropolos #interdisciplinary
